Learning Objectives Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to: - Reinforce the clinical management goals for clinicians who care for patients with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis and compare and contrast the nonpharmacologic,
pharmacologic, and surgical interventions for patients with arthritis.
- Describe the public health, work-related, and personal costs associated with chronic back pain and discuss the pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic interventions that are used to treat this pain syndrome.
- Outline the prevalence, risk factors, and pathogenesis of fibromyalgia and devise a treatment plan that comprises evidence-based pharmacologic and nonpharmacologic
interventions.
- Review the mechanisms underlying the development of neuropathic pain and describe prevention and treatment strategies for commonly encountered types of neuropathic pain.
